UNDP SAHEL

AD SPOT - UNDP

In March/April 2016, What Took You So Long? took on a 6 week, 6 country filmmaking journey across West Africa's Sahara Desert. We produced 7 videos for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) about the work of in the Sahel region. The videos included a 30 second TV ad spot, a program overview video that covered main themes such as regional resilience, women empowerment, water facilities, and border management, as well as a video that told the story of UNDP’s work with a small Chadian village called Lobotigué and it’s productive response to the influx of refugees from Sudan.

Our travels through Mali, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Senegal offered a host of challenges from 130 degree heat to navigating rapidly deteriorating security situations. Along the road, we met dozens of nomadic herders and social entrepreneurs working to better their homes. We stayed in open air tents and (some of us) got malaria.
