Waynak began as a 6-part documentary series to change the narrative on the refugee ‘crisis’ by telling collaborative and inspiring stories of people working together across the world’s refugee, host, and volunteer populations — turning into a movement when it was adopted by MakeSense’s 30,000-strong volunteer community in Paris, anchoring screenings, hackathons, and hold-ups across Europe.

The series set out to change how people understand the refugee ‘crisis’ — from one of hopelessness to one of opportunity — and to show that taking action can come in many forms, within anyone’s current life. The barrier to entry on this ‘crisis’ is a house of cards built by sensationalist coverage; Waynak shatters that illusion and brings people together in what we call the migration ‘movement’.
